Founded in 1998 by Chris Streng and Daniel Streng, we are a leading design & branding firm with locations in New York & Chicago. We provide innovative design solutions—product design, brand strategy & development, experiential design, & package design —for some of the world’s leading companies.

Our diverse design and branding portfolio extends from consumer goods to emerging technologies, housewares, soft goods, fashion and footwear for many of the world's leading companies.

Recognized worldwide by museums & competitions, our work has been exhibited in international exhibitions including Japan, Seoul, Shanghai, London & Milan, & led the Smithsonian's first National Design Triennial in New York.

Further recognition includes numerous IDEA awards, Good Design awards, Red Dot and SPARK awards, among others.

We've been published in numerous books and print media including:

Our early design principles were rooted in an understanding of emotional relationships between people, objects, & their environments. Today we've maintained those core values with a refined Human Centered approach.

We design products, build brands, & implement strategies that deliver innovative, efficient, & sustainable solutions. We help companies develope key emotional events at multiple points in the product experience to create memorable, authentic connections with people.

History

Chris Streng & Daniel Streng began their careers operating separate studios in the United States, and initially worked primarily with clients in Milan, Tokyo, & New York.

In the late '90s, the two came together to found Streng, which may seem like an obvious choice, but the brothers’ collaboration was actually accidental. Design event organizers began soliciting work from the two separately and as a pair. Then clients began calling for the other brother. This happened so often that Chris & Daniel realized, “We’re perceived as a team—it makes sense to function as one”.

Today, the brothers have assembled a dynamic group of designers whose impressive talents have grown the company to be the accomplished firm that it is. Streng partners with Fortune 500 companies, small businesses and start-ups to guide them through the process of creating industry changing products that resonate with consumers.

Founders

Chris Streng
Chris has always been interested in the relationship between objects & emotional response. He uses his understanding of our collective cultural lexicon to create opportunities for emotional reaction between person & object. Chris studied architecture & product design at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, industrial design & interior architecture at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, as well as anthropology & human geography at Marquette University.

Daniel Streng
Daniel believes that the goal of design is to solve human problems—questioning everything from the premise to the business model. Interested in disruptive aesthetics, Daniel is careful not to be disruptive to the extent that selfhood is lost. By testing the limits of objects’ identities, he discovers their key elements. Daniel studied art and design at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

Both Chris & Dan sit on the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Design Council. Together, they have won numerous awards, including multiple IDEA awards, Good Design awards, Red Dot, & SPARK among others.

Locations

Working closely with our clients to provide the best service requires making ourselves available whenever and where ever needed. We are able to meet local needs best through regional locations that can service our relationships at any moment.

New York
Located in New York’s legendary Pencil Factory, creativity surrounds Streng New York—literally. We share the building with some of the nation’s top photographers, music engineers, bloggers, typographers, film makers and more. Whether watching a film shoot out our front windows, or passing an indie musician in the office hallway, inspiration is everywhere. A view of NYC’s breathtaking skyline is a nice perk, too.

Chicago
Our roots reside in the Midwest. Streng Chicago is located in the Fulton Street corridor west of Downtown, and has been in the well-known Albany Carroll Arts building since the late ‘90s—although we’ve had to acquire more space there to accommodate our growing team! Packed with artists & designers, the Chicago Tribune recently said that this Arts Building is “capable of producing more creative content in a few hours than you've experienced in your entire lifetime.”
