Ubu Seating Units by Chris Streng Design

Ubu Smithsonian National Design Museum

The Ubu series is a seminal project by Chris Streng Design, recognized for its innovative fusion of sculptural art and functional furniture. This collection, which has been featured in the Smithsonian National Design Museum, challenges traditional notions of seating through its bold, monolithic forms and high-gloss plastic finishes.

Available in a vibrant palette of neon lime, hot pink, and saturated orange, each Ubu unit features a central "keyhole" aperture that serves as both a structural necessity and a visual focal point. The organic, soft-edged geometry invites tactile interaction, while the reflective surfaces catch the light to emphasize the fluid transitions between its interior and exterior planes. By reducing furniture to its most essential, expressive form, the Ubu project demonstrates how everyday objects can serve as dynamic installations within both public and private spaces.
